MAGA Republican wants Trump to 'take a page out of Andrew Jackson's playbook'

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) added his name Tuesday to a growing list of President Donald Trump allies calling for the executive branch to simply ignore judicial orders it doesn't like.
"Yes, I think he should take a page out of Andrew Jackson's playbook," said Roy, a far-right hardline lawmaker who previously worked as a top staffer for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), in a discussion with Laura Ingraham on Fox News. "At some point, J.D. Vance is right when J.D. said, hold on, you can't have a judge step in when the president is exercising his constitutional authority."
Roy is referring to how in 1832, President Andrew Jackson famously disregarded then-Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall's ruling that the seizure of Cherokee Indian lands in Georgia violated federal treaties, a move that set the stage for the implementation of the 1830 Indian Removal Act and the genocide known as the Trail of Tears.
Jackson is popularly quoted as having said, "John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it," although this quote is probably apocryphal.

In recent weeks, several federal judges, including some appointed by Republican presidents, have issued orders blocking Trump from eliminating birthright citizenship, freezing congressionally approved federal payments and grants across a wide variety of public programs, letting tech billionaire Elon Musk access the Treasury Department's payroll system, among other things.
This has prompted many Trump allies, including Vance, to baselessly argue the executive branch should have the final say over the courts and whether what it's doing has a legal and constitutional basis.
