This layered view is such a familiar sight here, and I wanted to capture it in some way. This may be my favorite acrylic collage piece I’ve made so far.
This painting has phrases of my poem “Call the Mountain” (from the book Appalachian Ground) written into the layers, in addition to other poems as the collage pieces.

My finished painting is mostly acrylic inks, some light-body acrylics, my new Inktense pencils, Caran D’Ache aquarelles, and collage papers. It’s on a half-sheet—15″x22″—of watercolor paper. I may try the next version on a whole sheet; I’ve never painted that large before and it sounds enticing.
