Adam Pearson, the actor of 2024 psychological dark-comedy flick A Different Man, has clapped back at an X user who described him as “genuinely so scary” due to the fact that Pearson has Neurofibromatosis Type 1, a genetic condition that causes excessive body tissue to grow on his face.
The post, made by now-deleted X user @FlopHive, was made in reference to the seating chart for the BAFTAs where it was revealed Pearson would be sitting next to Camila Cabello.
“This is genuinely so scary,” the post read.
“I would not attend the event if I were Camila.”
Pearson made a tweet directly responding to @FlopHive’s original comment, calling the remarks as “nonsense opinions”.
“Luckily for everyone you’re not Camila and — most importantly — weren’t invited,” he wrote.
“So from me, Adam Pearson, directly to you @FlopHive — take your nonsense opinions elsewhere as I have exactly zero time for your anonymous, ableist nonsense.”

In response to Pearson, @FlopHive deleted the original tweet and wrote a new tweet, asking Pearson to be held “accountable” for sending harassment.
“I made an insensitive joke and deleted the tweet when it had less than 200 likes,” the user penned.
“You took that tweet and turned something that was already deleted, into thousands of people harassing me and sending me death threats and news articles made about me.
“I took my accountability, now it’s your turn. As a celebrity, especially one with a disability, you already know you’re bound to get comments.
“Does that make them OK? No. But using your platform to send people to harass everyone who makes a comment about you isn’t either.”

@FlopHive’s tweets, as well as their account, have since been deleted.
Amongst the hullabaloo, another user accused the actor of enabling “the mass harassment” against @FlopHive via his scathing response.
However, Pearson clapped back stating that because he is a celebrity, that doesn’t mean ableism is OK.
“So discrimination is OK as long as it’s not by a celebrity? Jog on sweetheart!”

A Different Man has been nominated for numerous awards, including the Academy Award for ‘Best Makeup and Hairstyling’.
The film follows the plot of a man with neurofibromatosis taking part in an experimental surgery that changes his appearance, only to find his insecurities still remain and deeply affect his new life.
The 97th Academy Awards will air on March 2, 2025 Eastern Standard Time.
